Richardson, TX (June 14, 2009) – In keeping with a tradition of understanding and participating in the dynamics of the City of Richardson, Realtor Connie Thomas is an active member and a two-year veteran of Leadership Richardson.

The civic group’s recent May meeting focused on Web design, evolving news at the YMCA and the Senior Net, an all-volunteer group providing assistance to elderly residents.

Ms. Thomas has been involved in Leadership Richardson for a number of reasons. The award-winning sales associate at the Richardson Regional office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – Dallas/Fort Worth (CBDFW), says “It’s important to support the community where I live, and it’s equally important to stay abreast of the local civic programs, the schools and other issues affecting home buyers and sellers.”

“Anyone interested in knowing the dynamics of the City of Richardson is welcome at these programs,” says Ms. Thomas, who is a charter member of Realtors Supporting Richardson Schools (RSRS) and served as membership chairperson for 11 years.

“I joined the group in 1998 with another residential specialist, Anne Foster, a key player in RSRS,” she says. “Our goal was sharing information and addressing issues important to local residents. Anne founded the program as a way of communicating school information to the public. For many years, Richardson has been a leader in excellent schools, magnet school education and educational issues.”

Ms. Thomas currently serves as liaison between the Leadership Dallas and the North College Park Neighborhood Association, a neighborhood group covering the area where she lives.

Meetings focus on a wide variety of subjects impacting the community, such as demolition of an apartment building, progress occurring at the new Huffhines Recreation Center and anything pertaining to public, private and higher education.

“For 24 years, Leadership Richardson has been strongly supported by the Richardson community,” says Ms. Thomas. “This year’s program sponsors and session hosts include AT&T, the City of Richardson, First Bank of Canyon Creek, Leadership Richardson Alumni Association, MetroPCS, Nortel, Richardson Regional Medical Center, Richland College, Texans Credit Union, The Eisemann Center, The Heights Baptist Church and The University of Texas at Dallas.”

This leadership program identifies and supports emerging community leaders. “We also acquaint participants with Richardson’s historical perspective, and we assist participants in addressing community needs, issues and problems,” says Ms. Thomas.

From November through May, the class studies seven different topics constituting a variety of information, problem solving and interactive tasks. Topics include business and economic development, city government, cultural arts, health care, public education, public safety and social services.
