Home owners, Realtors, neighborhood organizations and community members will partner on November 13-15 to organize the Lakewood Home Festival and the 33rd Annual Home Tour. “The Lakewood office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – Dallas/Fort Worth (CBDFW) will participate in this event – as we do every year,” says Kathy Darrow, Branch Manager of the Lakewood office.
She adds, “This wonderful tradition began in 1976 when the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA) staged a tour showcasing five historic neighborhood homes as a fund-raiser to purchase playground equipment for kindergarten children. In the past five years alone, LECPTA has raised more than $750,000 for Lakewood Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School.
The festival’s most renowned event – the Lakewood Home Tour – will feature five homes with distinctive and historic architecture in the Lakewood area. Sponsoring the featured home at 6652 Avalon Avenue are CBDFW Lakewood office sales associates Nancy Wilson and Gia Marshello. Team Whiteside, headed by John Whiteside is also an event sponsor, a role the team has undertaken since the inception of the festival.
“The Avalon home is symbolic of the historic homes in Lakewood – an elegant interpretation of Tudor architecture built in 1923 and extensively renovated in 2009,” says Ms. Wilson. “Great care was taken to preserve the historic integrity of the home. The formal living room features the original Batchelder frieze above the fireplace, and the master bathroom showcases the original stained-glass window once located in the bar area.”
“People from North Texas visit the Lakewood Home Festival every year,” says Ms. Marshello. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see an amazing group of the eclectic homes for which Lakewood is famous.”
To begin the festival, an exclusive Candlelight Tour of homes is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on November 13, followed by the Caddyshack Auction Party at 7 p.m. The home tour and Market/Café are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Market hosts more than 60 vendors, including award-winning artists and juried craftspeople. “This long-time favorite is eagerly anticipated for area residents who look forward to starting their Christmas shopping early or finding something special for themselves,” says Ms. Darrow. Tickets purchased in advance are $15, and weekend packages are available. For ticket information, visit www.lecpta.org/lakewoodhomefestival or call the CBDFW Lakewood office at 214.828.4300.
